Week 9

In class, Mr. Fauzi Yusoff reviewed the sketches and poster templates for Project 2 and provided us with many professional insights, particularly on how to create excellent works through photography. These suggestions were invaluable to me. He gave detailed feedback on my assignment and discussed improvement strategies with us. Below are some notes from his feedback:

Summary of Mr. Fauzi Yusoff’s Feedback:

Overall Performance: The project is progressing well and has been completed nicely. Is this photography work taken by you?
Hand-Drawn Section: The first step is to provide a hand-drawn sketch. It’s recommended to dedicate a page specifically to showcasing hand-drawn content. Separate the hand-drawn elements from the digital design, with hand-drawn sketches placed at the top and digital content below for clarity and structure.
Demonstrating the Creative Process: To showcase your creative process, upload the editing records of your work to your e-portfolio. Start by showing the original image, followed by the edited version, including steps like cropping or adjustments. This helps to improve your score.
Photography Requirements: Ensure that at least 50%-70% of the images are your original photography. If needed, you can refer to your previous projects (e.g., photos from the Shazam project) to save time. Avoid using selfies, as they do not meet the requirements for this submission.
Layout Suggestions: The current layout appears slightly crowded. It’s recommended to optimize the font arrangement to make the page cleaner and more organized. For font selection, try clean and modern options like Bebas Neue. Avoid stretching fonts or images to maintain the balance and aesthetic quality of the design.
After class, I actively revised my work according to Mr. Fauzi Yusoff’s suggestions. I optimized the layout, completed the addition of the hand-drawn section, and adjusted the photography content and creative process presentation. I am truly grateful for his guidance.

Additionally, during our online class, Mr. Fauzi Yusoff provided us with valuable learning resources through his personal platform. On this platform, he shared content related to the “Digital Photography and Imaging” course, aiming to help us better grasp the techniques of creating digital images. His resources covered topics such as the basics of Photoshop, generating digital images, and image processing, offering comprehensive and practical insights. Through these resources, Mr. Fauzi Yusoff aims to support our learning, enhance our practical skills, and improve our critical thinking abilities.

The course content includes lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises, requiring students to complete a comprehensive project or portfolio that showcases their creative process and ability to solve design problems. These resources have deepened my understanding of the course and boosted my confidence in optimizing my work. Mr. Fauzi Yusoff’s generous sharing and support have made me feel his strong dedication to student learning, and I am deeply thankful for his help!

Lecture

notes:

Digital surrealism is an art form that combines reality with subconscious expression, drawing inspiration from dreams and the workings of the unconscious mind. By employing distortion, transformation, and illogical imagery, it creates unique and captivating visual effects. Influenced by Freudian theories and Dadaism, surrealism emphasizes free association and dreamlike imagery, with Salvador Dalí being a prominent figure known for his symbolic and extraordinary works. In the digital era, surrealism has become one of the top artistic styles, made more accessible through tools like Photoshop that enable creative expression. The process of creating digital surrealism begins with sketching out ideas and gathering reference images, aiming to create visuals that appear realistic yet fantastical. Key elements include symbolic imagery and dreamlike scenes that challenge logic. The mindset during creation encourages bold experimentation and continuous learning, with an emphasis on documenting the creative process in an e-portfolio to showcase the coherence and completeness of the work. By merging traditional art with modern technology, digital surrealism expands the possibilities of artistic expression, serving as a powerful medium for imagination and creativity.

Quotes of the day: Inhale the future, Exhale the past

Summary of your design concept:

This design is centered around the quote "Inhale the future, Exhale the past," combined with the theme of yoga to create a calm, relaxing, and vibrant visual effect through the thoughtful use of colors and design elements. The inspiration came from a yoga photo I took of my sister, which deeply reminded me of the importance of exercise for physical and mental well-being. Through this poster, I aim not only to convey the harmony between yoga and nature but also to encourage more people to value exercise as a way to find inner balance and strength.

The design incorporates dynamic silhouettes, natural plant patterns, and mandala decorative elements to highlight the serenity and vitality of yoga while adding cultural depth and artistic expression. Using modern and minimalist fonts, soft color palettes, and dynamic text effects, the design reflects the elegance and flexibility of yoga, creating a composition that is both visually appealing and meaningful.

Reflection:

By Week 9, I successfully completed Project 2, integrating photography, typography, and vector graphics into cohesive designs. During class, Mr. Fauzi Yusoff reviewed my sketches and poster templates, providing invaluable feedback, particularly on using photography to enhance my work. He emphasized the importance of showcasing hand-drawn sketches alongside digital designs, documenting the creative process in my e-portfolio, and ensuring that a majority of images used were original photography. His advice on layout improvements, including typography and spacing, helped refine my final output.

Following his guidance, I revised my work, added hand-drawn elements, optimized the layout, and documented my creative process more effectively. Additionally, Mr. Fauzi Yusoff provided us with learning resources through his personal platform, offering practical insights on Photoshop techniques and digital image processing. These resources deepened my understanding of visual storytelling and design principles.

Although I completed the project in Week 9, I plan to continue refining my work based on his feedback. This experience strengthened my technical skills, enhanced my ability to think critically, and highlighted the importance of integrating professional guidance into creative projects.
