Reflections
What have I learnt in this module?
In this module, I have studied design principles (Design Principles) in depth, including contrast, repetition, alignment, proximity and hierarchy. These principles not only help me understand the components of design more systematically, but also improve the visual effect and readability of the works.
During the practice process, I have learned how to use these principles to optimize typesetting, enhance the clarity of information transmission, and improve the overall consistency of the design. For example, through contrast, I can highlight the key points in the design; through hierarchy, I can effectively guide the audience's visual flow. This knowledge makes me more confident in design decisions and also enables me to review my works from a more professional perspective.
What did I enjoy the most?
My favorite part is the application of color in design principles. Color is not only a visual presentation, but also can convey emotions, create an atmosphere, and affect the audience's understanding of information. During the learning process, I have tried different color - matching schemes and observed how they affect the overall atmosphere of the design. This makes me realize that mastering color application can not only improve the beauty of the work, but also make the design more appealing.
In addition, I also enjoy learning how to use contrast and hierarchy to enhance the readability of information.
What did I not enjoy the most?
Overall, I am very interested in the content of this module, and there is no part that I particularly dislike. But if I have to say, I think that when I first started learning, it was a challenge to understand and flexibly apply all design principles. Sometimes, I would unconsciously ignore some principles in the design, such as proximity and alignment, resulting in a lack of overall sense in the picture. Fortunately, through continuous practice and adjustment, I have gradually mastered the application of these principles.
What are my aspirations?
I find that I am better at handling color and contrast when designing, but I need to strengthen my skills in typesetting and alignment. Sometimes, I will pay too much attention to visual impact and ignore the orderliness and logic of the design. Therefore, in future practice, I need to pay more attention to how to make the design both visually attractive and neat and easy to read.
In addition, I also realize that design is not only an aesthetic presentation, but also a way of organizing information. A good design is not only "good - looking", but more importantly, it can clearly and accurately convey information. This cognition has changed my understanding of design and also makes me pay more attention to the audience's experience when creating.
What has changed and what has not in my learning journey?
The changed part is that my design thinking has become more systematic. Previously, when designing, I made decisions more by intuition, but now, I will take the initiative to think about how to use design principles to optimize the work. For example, I will consider the hierarchical structure before starting the design to ensure the logical clarity of information transmission; when choosing colors, I will consider contrast and emotional expression, rather than just relying on personal preferences.
But at the same time, my creative habits have not completely changed. I am still used to collecting a large amount of inspiration at the initial stage of creation and trying different styles. Sometimes, I will have too many ideas and it is difficult to make a final decision. Therefore, in the future, I hope to improve my ability to quickly screen and make decisions and make my design process more efficient.
What are my future goals?
In the future, I hope to further improve my ability in typesetting and information hierarchy, so that the design is both beautiful and practical. In addition, I want to study color psychology and visual communication in depth, so as to use color more accurately in the design to influence the audience's emotions and understanding.
At the same time, I also hope to read more books on design principles, brand design and user experience to expand my knowledge and continuously improve my design thinking and practical ability.
