Task 3
Task 3 Design description
In Task 3, I finally chose 'Improvement Point 1' as the final design plan and decided to present my final work in the form of an illustration. The illustration has the theme of 'Embrace the Light', emphasizing the concepts of hope, dream and growth, and at the same time, it draws on the composition techniques and visual styles of Zeen Chin's works. Through the use of light and shadow and the creation of the picture atmosphere, I hope this work can convey positive emotions and let the viewers feel the power of chasing the light and moving forward constantly.
Design Choices and Reasons
1. Select Improvement Point 1
During the sketch improvement stage of Task 2, I received feedback from Mr. Shamsul Hamimi and finally decided to adopt Improvement Point 1 as the final design plan. The core points of this plan are as follows:
The character faces the upper right of the screen, forming a dynamic composition of upward movement, strengthening the imagery of hope and breakthrough.
Background elements (clouds, light beams) also extend in the same direction, making the picture more unified and effectively guiding the audience's sight.
The overall lines are smooth, and the picture is more concise and clear, enabling the audience to focus more on the character's actions and the expression of the light source.
2. Select illustration as the final presentation method
Finally, I decided to present this theme in the form of illustration for the following reasons:
Illustration can convey the theme more directly and express emotions and atmosphere through visual presentation.
The illustration style makes the picture more pure, allowing the viewer to focus more on the expression of light and shadow and the character's emotions.
The overall style draws on Zeen Chin's composition techniques and combines soft light and shadow effects to enhance the expressiveness of the picture.
This work revolves around the theme of "Embrace the Light", hoping to convey the concepts of hope, dreams and growth, and let the audience feel the power of chasing the light and moving forward continuously.
Design Process
1. Color Exploration
In terms of color matching, I chose the dark blue night sky and the warm golden - yellow light source. Such a contrast can:
Highlight the lighting effect of the character and enhance the three - dimensional sense of the picture.
Symbolize the light in the darkness, which fits the theme 'Embrace the Light'.
This color - matching scheme is also inspired by Zeen Chin's work style. His works often use dreamy color combinations to enhance the atmosphere.
2. Application of Design Principles
During the design process, I applied multiple design principles to optimize the visual effect:
Contrast: Utilize the contrast between light and dark to make the character stand out more.
Alignment: Keep the directions of all elements consistent to enhance the smoothness of the picture.
Hierarchy: The light source is the visual center, followed by the character, and then the background clouds, forming a clear visual hierarchy.
Highlights of the final product:
Dynamic Sense Representation: Through the postures of the characters and the direction of the light beams, I created an upward momentum, strengthening the concepts of hope and growth, making the picture more dynamic, and guiding the viewers' eyes at the same time.
Atmosphere Building: The warm - colored light source not only brings a warm mood, but also forms a sharp contrast with the cool color tone of the night sky, enhancing the layering and emotional appeal of the picture, making it easier for the audience to be immersed in it.
Detail Depiction: I added more details to the characters' costumes, light and shadow effects, and background elements, making the overall picture more expressive, while ensuring that the visual focus is always on the characters and the light source, thus highlighting the theme of "Embrace the Light".
Lecturer's Feedback and Adjustment.
After presenting the final work, I received feedback from my mentor.
He thought:
The composition and visual guidance were properly handled, and the picture had a clear direction.
But at the same time, he reminded me not to ignore the detail depiction because the detail performance was a great advantage of the original style.
Based on this feedback, I further optimized the light and shadow processing of the characters and the shape of the background clouds, making the overall effect more refined and complete.
Summary
Through this design, I have not only strengthened my comprehensive application abilities in composition, color, layout, etc., but also have a more in - depth understanding of how to convey emotions related to the theme through visual elements. The final work successfully expresses the concept of 'Embrace the Light' and conveys the positive energy of hope, dream and growth.
Feedback
Week 6
Specific feedback:
Mr. Shamsul Hamimi thinks that I have done a very good job in composition and visual guidance. The picture has a clear directionality, and the overall visual effect is clear and guiding. However, he reminds me not to ignore the detailed depiction, because details are one of the advantages of the original work. I need to further strengthen the detail performance while maintaining the overall composition advantages to improve the completion degree of the work. He suggests that I continue to move forward and gradually complete Task 3.
General feedback:
This week, my work has performed well in composition and visual guidance, with clear levels and a sense of direction. But there is still room for improvement in detailed depiction. I need to pay more attention to the richness and fineness of the picture to make the work more vivid and in - depth. Next, I will combine my tutor's suggestions, refine the picture elements, and steadily promote the completion of Task 3.
Week 7
Specific feedback:
In this final week, Mr. Shamsul Hamimi provided us with valuable feedback and evaluation on our final task, guiding us to refine our work and ensuring that we applied design principles effectively. He also instructed us to complete the TESwhile focusing on our final submission within the given timeframe.
General feedback:
Throughout this final task, Mr. Shamsul Hamimi emphasized the importance of attention to detail and the refinement process in design.
Additionally, he encouraged us to analyze our designs critically and make necessary adjustments to enhance readability and visual hierarchy. He reminded us that effective design is not just about aesthetics but also about communication, ensuring that every element serves a purpose. By following his guidance, we were able to improve our work step by step, making our final submissions more polished and professional.
Reflections
Experience:
Through this design process, I improved my understanding of composition, color, and layout. The theme "Embrace the Light" helped me explore how visual elements convey emotions like hope and growth. Feedback from Mr. Shamsul Hamimi guided me in balancing strong composition with detailed refinement, making my work more polished.
Observation:
I observed that clear composition and visual hierarchy enhance a design’s effectiveness, but fine details add depth. Initially, I focused on structure, but as I refined my work, I realized details play a crucial role in storytelling.
Findings:
I learned that effective design is about both aesthetics and communication. The feedback helped me recognize the importance of balance between clarity and details. By improving my attention to refinement and critical analysis, I was able to create a more cohesive and professional final piece.
